HARDCOVER, bound in contemporary half calf and marbled boards, gilt morocco lettering-piece to spine, all edges sprinkled red; leather bit chafed in places, minute wormholes at foot of spine, small stain to one leaf of index; small ink stain at bottom of bookblock ran slightly into blank margin of some pages, at utmost edge and well away from text. In a very good condition. ~ First German edition. Translated from the English. Matthew Dobson (1732-1784), English physician and experimental physiologist. He is now remembered for his work on diabetes. In 1779 Dobson published his "Medical Commentary on Fixed Air" after his success in using "fixed air" (carbon dioxide) in the treatment of scurvy. D-3
