The book covers have edge wear, rubbing bumping and one tear to the bottom front cover by the spiral binding. The covers have ground-in dirt and there is a previous owner's inked name on the top corner of the front cover. The text pages are clean and bright, with some light spots of toning to the page edges and a couple of stray ink marks. This book was considered a standard text in the "field of hand lettering" during the 1940's and on. "Like calligraphy, hand lettering also requires discipline. It's a completely different form of discipline, as it is drawing letters as opposed to writing them, and are often very decorative.
