Ernest Nister and E P Dutton & Co., nd (c.1900) 1900. 1st Edition. Hardcover. VG-. 1st Edition. 23 x 28.5cm. Original cloth backed pictorial boards, green floral patterned endpapers and 26 full page colour illustrations, each portraying a variety of plantation characters in broad stereotype, with rhyming text on each opposing page. The boards are somewhat scuffed and generally age soiled, and rubbed at the corners. The front pastedown has some marks in ink and a drawing of a cat in a child's hand. The front free endpaper has an ink inscription and a line of offsetting from the ink opposite. The dedication page has 15cm tear towards the inner edge, which has been stabilised at some point by Japanese paper on the verso, and a repaired tear of 6cm on the title page. There are a few short marginal closed tears. There is a tiny 0.5 x 1cm chip at the bottom of "M". The inner edges of "A" & "B" each have a 6cm repaired tear at the bottom. The inner edges of "S" text and "W" illustration have been reinforced with Japanese paper. The book is constructed of a number of sections that are stapled, folded joined in together. Three leaves are loose where the staples have pulled through and no longer hold them (Q,R; M,N; E,F). There is evidence of some pencil marks having been erased on several pages (and title page, where some pencil marks still show in the A, B & C) and there are spots and marks generally throughout, but the pages are generally good. The pages are often brittle and become chipped at the corners and edges, but this the least chipped of the few that we have seen. A presentable, complete copy of a book that is most definitely "of its time". We have images of every page on file ready to send. Rainford & Parris Books welcomes enquiries, so please do not hesitate to ask if you require further images or have any questions. All books are packaged with great care.

And, of course, new body awareness and needs for privacy develop naturally in children's early years, so all these feelings can make it very hard for them to let doctors investigate the workings of… Read More
