About This Item

Santa Rosa: Black Sparrow Press, 1990. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine. Michael Montfort (photographer0. Large 8vo. Pp. 375. Includes one b&w Bukowski photograph by Michael Montfort. Bound half black cloth over color-illustrated paper-covered boards, printed spine label mounted on spine. Slight scuff on rear board; frpnt board with light stain at lower edge. Edition limited to 1000 unnumbered copies. First printing of the first edition. Boozing and womanizing in low-rent bars, at the racetrack, in neighborhoods on the other side of the tracks, usually in lousy apartments: These are Bukowski's subjects, wrought from first-person experience. This collection published when Bukowski was at the height of his fame following the 1987 movie "Barfly" that brought the writer to the attention of the masses - or at least those at least half-conscious. A handsome copy.

Synopsis

Charles Bukowski is one of America's best-known contemporary writers of poetry and prose, and, many would claim, its most influential and imitated poet. He was born in Andernach, Germany, and raised in Los Angeles, where he lived for fifty years. He published his first story in 1944, when he was twenty-four, and began writing poetry at the age of thirty-five. He died in San Pedro, California, on March 9, 1994, at the age of seventy-three, shortly after completing his last novel, Pulp (1994).
