Indianapolis: The Bobbs Merrill Company Publishers, 1926. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 12mo. 159 p.p. Original green cloth with red titling to front cover and spine, and red stamped candle device to front board. Library shelf sticker removed from spine. Minor bumping and wear to spine ends, light chafing to corners. Colour illustrated dust jacket has some wear and chipping to spine ends, shelf number inked to spine, a few tears to rear cover, some foxing and soiling. Ex-Library, stamp of Brooklin Public Library (Ontario) to pastedowns. Offsetting and foxing to endpapers. A few spots of light foxing, else clean. A murder mystery in San Francisco and the only clue is a birthday cake with 50 candles. Biggers is recognized as one of the few outstanding writers of the American type of mystery story. First published in the Saturday Evening Post. Basis for the 1921 movie starring Bertram Grassby and Marjorie Daw.
