Historical & critical studies of Shakspere's text, characters & commentators, with annotations & introductory remarks on the plays. Numerous black & white engravings, including many of famous actors of the day in character.An impressive looking 3 volume set with matching original leather binding, blind stamped with a head of Shakespeare & ornate gilt border & gilt spine decorations. Black leather spine labels, titled in gilt. Marbled endpapers & page edges. Head & foot of each spine has been professionally repaired but making a rather nice job. Minor corner wear but nothing too bad for age. Scattered occassional foxing. .
