About This Item
Illustrated samizdat edition of Dalos' sequel of Orwell's 1984. The book was first published in English in 1984 unter the title "1985. A Historical Report (Hongkong 2036) From the Hungarian of ***".
This copy inscribed by Dalos (in 1999), by László Rajk the illustrator, and by Gábor Demszky (in 2000) the chief of the Samizdat publishing "AB Független", who at the time of the dedication served as the mayor of Budapest. In his inscription he explanats the unusual form of the book: they just could not cut the printed pages.
Samizdat editions, mostly political pamphlets, appeared in Hungary in the 1970s in the poor form of carbon copies of typescripts. Later in the 80s the so-called Democratic Opposition in Hungary established semi-underground publishings, like "AB Független" to publish not merely political literature but also literature that was banned by the Communist politics.
