St. LOUIS, MISSOURI. Good+. 1950. On offer is a super archive of nine [9] travel diaries written by Marie K. Zak, a very well-known travel writer during the 1950s and '60s. A graduate of St. Louis University, she worked for The Automobile Club World Wide Travel Service, wrote a column, called "Travel Talk", for a local newspaper and had a very close and religious family life. The diaries, which date from July 1950 to May 1967, are filled with information about all the flights (including meals served), places seen (a few are: Japan, Amsterdam, South America, Mexico, Hawaii, Paris, Switzerland, Scotland, etc.) hotels stayed at, ships traveled on, restaurants, people met and seen (such as Bob Sharp and Bill Sanders of the Yankees and Salvador Dali), food and drinks (there are even some recipes for the drinks she enjoyed), stickers from hotels, airlines and beer bottles, articles from "The Advertiser" (the paper she wrote for), photos and much more. The diaries are filled with ephemera; itineraries, notes, news clippings (one of which is about the S.S. Liguria, a ship they were on, avoiding the perils of a hurricane), photos, telegrams, cards, stickers, receipts, pictures and numerous postcards, beer bottle labels, menus +++. All items are in very good condition.
