About This Item
1919 Houghton Mifflin Co. 1st US edition custom red leather hardcover. Bookbinder block stamp on the title page. Raised bands, gilt title, and previous owner's name in gilt on the spine. Heavy decorative end papers, pocket behind the back board houses 3 foldout maps.
Previous owner's book plate on the front paste down, Arcadi Gluckman. Gluckman was a Colonel in the U.S. Army, a veteran of WWI & WWII. In WWI he commanded "E" Co. 39th Inf. 4th Division & was a staff in the China India Burma Theater of WWII where it is likely this was bound. During his military service he acquired a considerable number of decorations & awards including the Silver Star. During peacetime he was a prolific writer on the topic of guns & gun making.Top corner rubbing on the boards & some edgewear, else the leather is in excellent condition. Gold gilt on top edge of text block shows some light rubbing wear but still retains most of its' shine. Pages clean, unmarked & bright. Binding firm & straight.
