New York: American Bank Note Co., 1886. Engraved certificate. 7¼ x 11¼ inches. Blind seal. Cancellations. Faint creasing in right margin; very good.
Certificate for 10 preferred shares in Norfolk and Western Railroad Company signed by company president, Frederick J. Kimball. In the 1880s, Kimball expanded the railroad's operations in the South and in the coalfields of western Virginia and West Virginia. The railroad's expansion into coal hauling earned it the nickname "King Coal." These preferred shares were issued to New York Stock Exchange brokerage firm, Prince & Whitely.
