MELITE'S BAY CAPE TOWN SOUTH AFRICA, 1853. On offer is an interesting, original manuscript relic of mid 19th Century shipping and commerce handwritten by the renowned C B Pendleton noted in dispatches for his gallant help and aide to survivors of the shipping disaster at high seas on the cholera stricken 'San Francisco' while Pendleton was captain of the Lucy Thompson in 1857. This 1853 autographed letter [ALS] dated Melite's Bay [Cape Town South Africa] Sept of 1853 regarding his problems with setting out to sea because of the steamboat ballast, and decision not to transfer cotton to the steam boat Joseph Walker. He also mentions his ill health though it is improving. Blue folded letter is frank with a 3ct #11, with file fold through stamp. Some small split in a fold or two but overall G.. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Manuscript.
