About This Item
Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1960. Hardcover. 8vo. Tan cloth with brown lettering. x, 390pp. Very good. Faintest of mild wear only, though tight and internally fine. First edition, boldly signed by Johnson in blue ballpoint on front flyleaf. From the collection of one who twice tried to occupy this address: Adlai E. Stevenson II (1900-65), who lost to Eisenhower in 1952 and 1956 and who appears in this text more than a few times. More recently, from the collection of his son, Adlai E. Stevenson III (1920-2021), U.S. Senator from Illinois (1969-81). A sharp copy with interesting background. By the way, historian and politician Johnson (1915-85) went on to edit the multi-volume "Papers of Adlai Stevenson.
