About This Item

London: The Fountain Library, Methuen & Co Ltd, 1936. pp 116 Twenty-third edition (Fountain Library) of this classic comic history of Britain, illustrated by John Reynolds. Good plus in green cloth, brown spots and sunned to spine where the cloth is starting to tear, occasional spotting throughout. Inscribed "To Harry, Ded: H O Meeres". This book comes from the collection of the scientist and pioneer birth-control campaigner Marie Stopes (1880-1958) which was inherited by her son the philosopher Harry Stopes Roe (1924-2014) and sold following the death of his widow Mary Stopes Roe in May of this year. Mary was herself an academic and author, the daughter of the engineer and inventor of the bouncing bomb, Sir Barnes Wallis. John Reynolds 1936
