About fine. An original print of one of the sequence of superb photographs taken by Yousuf Karsh on location in South Africa during the filming of the 1964 Diamond Films production, ZULU, directed by Cy Endfield. Karsh's invitation to join the production and photograph the cast and locale resulted in a sequence of photographs of a very high order. The present image is a strong 3/4 profile portrait of a Zulu tribesman in tribal dress. The image is identified as "No. 564" in the series. Although this project is not as widely known as Karsh's formal portraiture, examples of the resulting images have featured prominently in both museum and print retrospectives of his career.

Jacobson imprint on card face and verso shows advertising text for her series Picturesque San Antonio. Overall very good condition with strong tones.
OCLC shows a listing for this photo but no libraries holding it. Yale has a set of Jacobson San Antonio photographs including one of the Alamo. Rare Book Hub shows no auction or catalog listings. The photograph shows Jacobson's address at 2 E. Houston St., San Antonio, Texas. She is listed at address in 1889-90 and 1891 San Antonio City directories. Jacobson's photograph offers more than just a view of the great shrine to the independence of Texas; it also reveals the looming presence of the "Alamo Building," a commercial establishment that catered to tourists. A French merchant, Honoré Grenet, bought the Long Barrack and courtyard in 1877 and covered it with a wooden structure as part of a museum and grocery store. Hugo and Schmeltzer Co. bought the store in 1884.

Simon Bamberger was a Utah entrepreneur who was the fourth Governor of the State of Utah and the first non-Mormon. He was involved in hotels, railroads and mining. Slim hardcover volume in the publisher's "one-picture" book series, signed by the artist and numbered 336/500 on the last page, following a two-sided color photograph hinged onto the page before, and a reproduced letter on the pages that make up the rest of the book. Bound in pale green paper covered boards with white text, the binding is in excellent, nearly new condition, save for some rubbing to the boards from shelving and barely perceptible sunning to the spine that is now an elegant gray rather than pale green..

Description:
Meadville, PA: Keystone View Company. Good. Stereoview. Set of three stereoviews depicting different locations in Utah. All produced by the Keystone View Company, appearing to come from two different boxed sets. No date is printed. Two in color come from one set and the other in black and white is from a different set. All are mounted on grey boards with black lettering. All are in good condition with a large curve to the mounts and slight wear to edges. Images are crisp. The two color photos are titled "Lobby at Zion Lodge Center, Zion Nat. Park, Utah" (UP 29448) and "Cedar Breaks Pavilion, Cedar Breaks, Utah" (UP 29453). The image in black and white is titled "The Lodge at Bryce Canyon, Utah" (29044). .
