Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo Program

  • Used
Schenectady, NY, 21-Nov-34. 56 pp (including covers) ballet program with an illustrated cover by Georges A. de Pogedareff (transcribed from indistinct signature). Russian ballet impresario Wassily de Basil, usually referred to as Colonel W. De Basil, founded the Ballets Russes de Monte-Carlo with artistic director Rene Blum in 1932. The ballet company toured all over Europe and North and South America. This particular program is from their time in New York, as evidence by the numerous advertisements by New York Companies. The majority of the program consists of black and white portraits of the companies leaders and dancers. There are also images of several ballets being performed. Along with the main program is a smaller program for a specific performance by the ballet in Schenectady, NY on November 21, 1934. The ballet performed three plays that night, "Les Presages", "Le Mariage D'Aurore", and "Le Beau Danube." Measures 12" x 9" (large program), 9" x 6" (small program). The main program's cover is soiled and has minor edge wear. Otherwise the programs are toned due to age.
