Hamlet, Prince Of Denmark Paperback - 2009

by William Shakespeare

About this book

In this quintessential Shakespearean drama, Hamlets halting pursuit of revenge for his fathers death unfolds in a series of highly charged confrontations that climax in tragedy.   The play begins with the ghost of Hamlet's father revealing that he was killed by Hamlet's uncle, Claudius, who has now married Hamlet's mother, Gertrude. Consumed by grief and madness, Hamlet feigns insanity as he plots his revenge. His inner turmoil and moral dilemmas are explored through soliloquies, while the play delves into themes of revenge, betrayal, and the nature of existence. Ultimately, the tragic events unfold, resulting in a climax of death and the ascension of Fortinbras as the new ruler of Denmark.

From the publisher

Hamlet is a tragedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written between 1599 and 1601. The play, set in Denmark, recounts how Prince Hamlet exacts revenge on his uncle Claudius, who has murdered Hamlet's father, the King, and then taken the throne and married Hamlet's mother. The play vividly charts the course of real and feigned madness-from overwhelming grief to seething rage-and explores themes of treachery, revenge, incest, and moral corruption.
