Paris, Tresse & Stock,, 1891. [Down There] Octavo. Rebound preserving the wrappers in contemporary half blue cloth, patterned paper boards, red morocco title label to spine gilt. Pages browning as usual, binding a rather tanned at the edges but an excellent and pretty copy. First Edition, trade issue. With the authors signed presentation inscription to the half title page, A Henry [sic] Giroud / son ami / J-K. Huysmans. This together with the authors earlier A Rebours are Huysmans lasting literary testament. Decadent novels by one who more or less invented the form. Wilde was famously influenced by Huysmans when he came to write Dorian Gray. Giroud was for many years a close friend of the author and wrote several books himself. Presentation copies of this title are rare.
