In Greek and English. 1837 University Press (Oxford, England), two 5 3/8 x 8 1/4 inches tall green pebbled leather bound volumes, gilt ruling to covers, four raised bands and gilt-lettered burgundy leather labels to spine, top page edges gilt, xii, 1001, [84] pp. Slight soiling, rubbing and edgewear to covers. 'Benedict Library' in period hand to front pastedown of each volume, and the initial 'K' on the facing blank front free-endpaper of each. 1/4" x 3/4" blank perforated label to margin of one page in Volume 2. Otherwise, apart from a few instances of very minor foxing, a very good to near fine set - clean, bright and unmarked. Uncommon. OCLC (No. 54198508) locates only two copies at institutions worldwide - at Yale in the U.S. and Exeter in England. Note that this is a heavy and oversized set, so additional postage will be required for international or priority orders. ~NNN~ [4.0P] An important English translation of the Greek New Testament by English theologian Edward Cardwell (1787-1861), Camden Professor of Ancient History at Oxford for some 35 years. In addition to major works in the field of English church history, Cardwell published editions of the 'Ethics' of Aristotle (Oxford, 1828) and an edition of the Greek and Latin texts of the History of the Jewish War, by Josephus, with illustrative notes.
