Philip Allan & Co. Ltd, 1929. Good. First edition. Association copy. Large 8vo, pp. xix, (1), 308. Green cloth with gilt lettering and bands to spine; blind-ruled single border to upper board. Fore- and bottom edges untrimmed. Lightly rubbed and soiled, spine ends and corners bruised. Tanned edges. POI to ffep: 'F. Seymour Cocks/ 1929'. Spine starting at rear hinge, but binding holding firm. Scant foxing to beginning and end, occasional pencil scoring, else, clean. Empty, torn envelope addressed to 'F.S. Cocks Esq, M.P./ House of Commons,' with 2 1/2p stamp and 3 Jan 1946 postage mark laid in. This copy belonged to Frederick Seymour Cocks (1882 1953), Independent Labour Party MP for Broxtowe from 1929 until his death. Cocks also authored tracts for the anti-war Union of Democratic Control, as well as a biography of E.D. Morel (1920), his fellow Labour Party MP and campaigner against the exploitation of the Congolese peoples in the Belgian rubber trade.
