Spine faded, front and rear mottled as from uneven fading, smudged on bottom edge, two tears (1/2 inch and 1/16 inch) at head of spine, backstrip pulled away at head of spine, previous owner's name and address in pencil on ffep, price in pencil and two 1/8 inch holes (as though something once attached) on ffep, pages darkened, thumbing on reverse of fly title page and following 3 pages, else pages clean. Douglas Duer, illustrator. 335 pp. plus 4 pages of advertisements at back. Text is clean and unmarked but tanned, typical of the paper used in 1912. Light foxing on front free endpapers and title page. Previous owner's attribution stamped on front pastedown. A Western novel about a Mormon woman defending her ranch and the period conflicts between Mormons and Gentiles near the the southern Utah border as written by a classic American writer.

In good condition. Brod is generally remembered as the close friend, biographer, and literary executor of Franz Kafka, but he was also a successful and prolific author in his own right. Cover has been restored. Very good condition. No dust jacket.

A rare early production from the essential Atlas Press, a revised version of this translation previously published in Australia. Unmarked copy, light spotting to page edges.

Rare hardcover 1st edition. Cover has some wear and water marks on the edge. Some shelf wear & corners bumped. Some light tanning. Nice, tight binding. Good for its age. Fictional story of Wannaseska, the Cherokee prophet set during the time the State of Georgia (white settlers) were about to confiscate Cherokee Lands in N. Georgia. The prophet is first hand eye witness and victim to the outrages. Story ends with the Trail, of Tears when the Cherokees agreed to move to Indian Territory in Oklahoma.
