The author, Georg Heinrich Loskiel (1740-1814), was a Moravian minister from Latvia who came to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in 1801 to head the Moravian community. This collection of daily spiritual meditations was published in Budissin (now Bautzen, Ger.) shortly before he left Europe for the United States.
