In a good half leather binding - the spine has a red leather title label and gilt compartments and is newer than the marbled boards. This 'Three Years of Arctic Service' is a narrative by Adolphus Greely of the United States expedition Lady Franklin Bay, on the east coast of Ellesmere Island. The expedition explored the north coast of Greenland from Cape Bryant to Cape Washington, the interior and west coast of Grinnell Land and extended the mapping of Hayes Sound. After the failure of relief ships the party made their way to Cape Sabine, where six survivors were rescued after enduring frostbite, starvation, cannibalism, and an execution.
