Chicago: Brothers of the Book, 1935. Paperback. Good-/None. Scarce privately printed edition. Cream saddle-sewn softcover, toned and lightly soiled with creased upper corner. (5 1/4 x 7 5/8 ins.) Tiny 1/8 in. and two 1/4 in. closed tears to back cover. INSIDE: Reprinted from the 1912 edition by Paul V. Bacon, who says Wild and Taylor had translated the Fragments from the Diary of Maecena, considered the earliest reference to the 'ancient and imperial game of golf.' What follows is a humorous poem about the sport. Having found no reference to a Diary of Maecena, this looks like a crank perpetrated by this band of Brothers from Chicago dedicated to keeping the Latin language alive, and who were surely fans of the imperial sport. 'Many, if not most, of the devotees of golf began by sniffing at it,' from the 'Fore!'word. Illus. by B&W cartoons. Classical Bureau
