Winans was a well known horse breeder and marksman, who won Olympic medals for shooting in 1908 and 1912.
Condition of the book is Good . The binding is straight with some partially loose signatures. Inside pages are clean and bright (high quality glossy paper).
Condition issues include:
- Wear to the board cloth at the top of the spine
- The front free endpaper is missing. All other pages are present.
- There is a closed tear on the title page, with an old tape repair on the verso (the copyright page, see photo)
- Pages 239 through 251 (the final pages of the book) have an unrepaired closed tear. The tear is barely noticeable for the first several pages, and gradually gets larger going toward the last pages. The final photo shows the tear at its worst.
- The last page (251) has been glued to the back free endpaper. This was probably done to secure an otherwise loose page to the binding.
In sum, this is a 116 year old book, and shows the moderate wear that comes from periods of continuous use.
