Formally posed picture of the California delegation for the Progressive or Bull Moose Party with two banners in support of Teddy Roosevelt and an American flag in the background. Approximately 30 prosperous white men and one white woman are posed, festooned with ribbons and badges. A carefully and contemporarily traced "Key" on a separate piece of thin paper reveals the identities of all but two of the people pictured, including Roosevelt's running mate Hiram W. Johnson. After Roosevelt's second term, his chosen successor William Howard Taft was elected, but when he failed sufficiently to institute Roosevelt's progressive policies, the former president instituted a new party to regain the Presidency.
