In a story first published in 1855, this is a lovely 1920 edition (later printing with renewed copyright from 1948) from Scribner's that features the art of N. C. Wyeth. It is one of a lovely series of classic books for young readers illustrated by famous artists of the day, each with a colorful paper pastedown to the front board. This one has front cover & DJ art, decorative endpapers, & 14 internal full-color, full-page plates by Wyeth throughout the 413 pages. Hardcover 8vo has black cloth-covered boards with colorful front paper pastedown & bright gilt lettering to spine.Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, with light but noticeable foxing to external fore edge. Margins of all plates are stark white & unmarked, as are the off-white pages. Binding strong & straight, corners crisp, front pastedown near flawless. The unclipped DJ is VG- (minus), with some chipping & rubbing to both ends of spine & all corners, small area of sticker pull with paper loss to lower spine; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover free!
