About This Item

New York: Rudd & Carleton. Very Good. 1860. Brown Cloth. xi, (2), 14-250, (4), 6 (ads) pages; Clean and secure in original brown cloth binding with decorative stamping in blind to both boards, faded gilt lettering at spine, cloth chipped along top of spine. One leaf has a paper flaw at the lower corner where the binder improperly trimmed the corner. Three leaves have discoloration at the lower outer corner. Still quite a nice example of this scarce volume recounting the author's travels through the early colonies with her observations on the social and cultural conditions prevailing in the North and the South just prior to the outbreak of the U.S. Civil War. Not simply social recollections, but cogent socio-cultural observations. OCLC 1264045002; Final Howes F295 "a"; Sabin 25254. .
