The very scarce first edition of this work.Complete in three volumes.A historical fiction novel set in the United States, featuring Native Americans central to the plot in Fort Ticonderoga.Written by George Payne Rainsford James, an English novelist, the Historiographer Royal during the last years of William IV's reign.Institutional label from the Bibliotheca Lindesiana to the front pastedowns. This library was curated by James Lindsay, the 26th Earl of Crawford. Lindsay was a noted bibliophile and collector, as well as being a prominent Freemason and the president of the Royal Astronomical Society. The extensive library was largely kept at Haigh Hall, before being given to various institutions upon Lindsay's death. In the original cloth binding. Externally, with marks to the boards and spines, heavier to Volume I. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities, with a little loss to the spines. Tidemark to the boards of Volume I. Rear hinge of Volume III is a little strained.Tidemark to the rear pastedowns and rear endpapers. Rear endpaper of Volume III is cropped to the fore edge. Bookplate to the front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some odd light spots. Closed tear to the head of page 1/2 of Volume I, not affecting text. Good
