"An Investigation into the Origin and Meaning of the Decalogue and an Analysis of its Ethical and Moral Value as a Code of Conduct in Modern Society." Large, hefty book with 644 numbered pages.
From the dust jacket: "The Ten Commandments is the culmination of twenty years of arduous, painstaking research and as many additional years of reading and study in religious criticism, anthropology, sociology and history. The idea for an anthropological analysis of the Ten Commandments occurred to Mr. Lewis when he was unable to find satisfactory answers in any published critiques to certain questions that kept coming to his mind while he was making a study of the Bible. Then began an exhaustive research covering two decades of intensive labor. What Mr. Lewis discovered after reading, checking, comparing and analyzing literally thousands of books astounded even the writer. This is an original, outstanding contribution to religious criticism which will revolutionize the approach to higher Biblical investigation."
