About This Item
From the Preface: "It wuz a beautiful evenin' in Jonesville, and the World. The Earth wuz a-settin' peaceful and serene under the glowin' light of a full moon and some stars, and I sot jest as peaceful and calm under the meller light of our hangin' lamp and the blue radiance of my companion's tow orbs." Josiah and his wife discuss the need to write this book about the World's Fair.
Good+ condition. Blue cloth cover with black and silver gilt image and text in gold gilt. Spine has some fading, but still shows the gold gilt title and silver gilt Ferris wheel graphic. Spine shows wear, but overall edges and corners are good. Both front and back covers have cracks in the end papers at the spine, but both are still very much attached. Previous owner's name in pencil on front end paper, but there is also a grease pencil mark. Pages are lightly tanned, but text is clean and binding is tight. The pages are a thicker and heavier than the usual. Lots of black and white illustrations that are really nice.
694 pages. There is also a page at the back of "Other Works by Josiah Allen's Wife
This is a thick heavy book so it may require a small amount of additional postage.
