New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1891. Mixed editions. Hardcover. Very good. Octavos. 3 volumes: [4], 605 pages; [4], 676 pages; [3], 380 pages. Blue cloth hardcovers with floral designs on the covers and spines. Gilt stamped titles, gilt bordered, on the front covers. Gilt titles on the spines. Three frontispiece steel engraved portraits of Francis Kemble. The first volume "Records of Girlhood" is a second edition. The second volume, "Records of Later Life", published in 1884 was copyrighted 1882. The third volume, "Further Records" is a first edition. A note in pen written in the margin of page 19 of Further Records. Light edge wear to the cloth extremities. Kemble was a British Actress and writer who married Pierce Butler in Philadelphia. Butler owned plantations in Georgia. Kemble complained to her husband about the treatment of slaves. By 1845 their marriage ended. Kemble wrote about her experiences in Georgia in the book "Journal of a Residence on a Georgia Plantation" published in 1863.
