The first edition of the work. In the original publishers quarter paper vellum. With a frontispiece by Sir John E. Millais, headpieces, 1 plate and music for 'The Old Tune'. This work features a collection of poetry and songs by Irish poet and editor William Allingham. Allingham is best known for his posthumous diary which records his encounters with writers and artists such as Tennyson. This collection features his poem 'The Faeries' which he is also known for. In the original publisher's quarter paper vellum over cloth. Externally very smart with handling marks and fading to the spine and the odd minor mark to the boards. Offsetting and light scattered spotting to the end papers. Internally firmly bound with bright and generally clean pages with offsetting to the title page and the odd minor mark and spot, heavier to the front blanks and frontispiece. Very Good
