New York: Harper & Brothers, 1904. Hard Cover. Very Good binding. Octavo. xix, [3], 656 pp., frontis, ports, plates. Later printing. Signed and inscribed by Wyeth. As issued, in gray cloth with title in red on the front cover and spine; all plates are present as called for. Binding is somewhat soiled; spine is toned, though the gilt title remains bright. Light and scattered foxing to the pages, but internally, this is generally a clean copy; rear hinge starting to open at the hinge.

"Written by a Confederate veteran who served under Forrest, this detailed and uncritical study is concerned almost entirely with military operations" CWB II, 103. A warm inscription by Wyeth on the front free endpaper, "To W.W. Elgin / in memory of / the happy days of the La Grange / Military Academy / from his friend & / [?] / the author / John Allan Wyeth LL. D. / 1905." Scare signed. Dornbusch II, 2738; Howes W-716.
