A literary examination of the life, literary voice of Italian writer, novelist, playwright and businessman Aron Ettore Schmitz (1861 - 1928), best known by his pseudonym Italo Svevo (literally, Italian Swabian) was of Schwabian and Italian ancestry, and a non-religious Jew. Tutored in English by Irish author James Joyce, teacher and student became lifetime friends. Svevo was a source for Jewish lore of Ulysses, and Joyce championed Svevo's writings. Svevo, considered a pioneer of the psychological novel in Italy, is admired for his classic Modernist novel La Coscienza di Zeno (1923). 230 pgs, 5 chapters in 2 parts: I, The Presence; and II, The Case.
