Hardcover. 24.5cm, new edition, in three volumes, vi,436; viii,468 & viii,512pp. with three engraved title pages and 609 wood and steel engraved plates and illustrations, (including 97 steel engraved plates and 19 engraved maps, 18 being coloured), bound in contemporary half green morocco, wide gilt ruled raised bands, gilt decorations in the panels, and on the upper boards, green cloth boards, new endpapers, all edges gilt, a tremendous set, in fine condition. (ll) The wood engraved text illustrations are chiefly by Fairholt, Harvey, Nicholl and Sargent. Illustrators include W.H. Bartlett, T. Creswick, J.H. Burgess, T.C. Croker, etc.
