About This Item
Boston: Ginn & Co., 1902. (First published in 1901.) Natural history and legends of the wild birds of America. Decorative, signed publisher's cloth binding with gilt lettering and decoration. Signed with the samped initials "TBH" [Theodore Brown Hapgood, Jr., 1871-1938, noted American designer of books, bookplates, posters, and type ornaments.] 8vo. ix, 310 pp., + brief glossary of Indian names. Ten full-page plates + illustrations in the page margins. Gilt top page edge. VG with light wear. Fading of the green cloth at the spine and edges, as usual with this title. Sound, tight binding. A nice book from the golden age of decorated cloth bindings, a relatively brief era before illustrated dust jackets became the dominant design.
