About This Item

Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1905. First edition. Hardcover. Good. In 1901, Ireland was appointed 'Colonial Commissioner' of the University of Chicago with the express purpose of compiling a comparative study of the various colonial administrations in the the Far East. As a result, he was expecting to have a work of several volumes on the subject published subsequent to this book. Here he gives a summary of his principal findings, as a result of 15 years' research, on the conduct of colonial administrations in Borneo, Burma, French Indochina, Hong Kong, Malaya, the Netherlands East Indies and the Philippines. Good Hardback. First Edition. 339 pages with a bibliography, index, statistical tables and a map in a pocket on the rear back cover. Weight: 1.0 kg Post free within Malaysia There is a small gash at the top of the spine and the cover is rubbed around the edges. A previous owner's name is written on a front end paper. There is a crack in the binding by the back inside cover, but this does not seem to have affected the strength of the binding. The binding is tight, the text clear and there is mild tanning of the pages.
