About This Item
Albuqueruque, New Mexico: University of New Mexico Press, 1977. First Paperback . Paperback Edition. Very Good. 6" x 9. 204 Pages Indexed. First Paperback edition was published in 1977. Earl H. Morris (1889-1956) was one of the pioneers of southwestern archaeology. He was perhaps best known for his excavation and reconstruction of the Great Kiva at Aztec, New Mexico. He also preserved some of the ruins at Mesa Verde and was among the first archaeologists to use tree-ring dating. Morris's archaeological colleagues and disciples hailed this book, first published in 1968, as a superb biography and a crucial work in the history of scientific archaeological exploration in the Southwest. This book is more than a biography of Earl Morris. In telling his story, the authors have presented a historical overview of the formative years of Southwestern archaeology. Through Morris' professional career, they trace the unfolding of Anasazi prehistory drawing upon published and unpublished source materials. This well-written and informative biography will be useful and enjoyable to both professional archaeologist and general reader interested in Southwestern studies.
