Boards absent, portion of leather spine remains. 1799 Soft Cover. 68 pp. A philosophical discussion of the principles underpinning the formation of a civilized society, the relationship between laws and morality, etc. Mackintosh was a Scottish jurist, Whig politician and Whig historian. This work, along with his 1791 reply to Edmund Burke's Reflections on the Revolution in France, propelled him to fame, and he later served as a judge, a member of Parliament, and a professor law and politics.
