Mystery writer's account of the history of Scotland Yard in the second half of the nineteenth century, particularly the years seeing the transformation of the Detective Department to the C.I.D.; those involved included Jonathan Whicher, Richard Tanner, George Clark, William Palmer, Nathaniel Druscovich, and Frederick Williamson. Hardcover, full sand cloth, red titling. Light wear to book; jacket shows some edgewear, rubbing, light chipping, inerior mends with bad tape, old Fred Harvey label on back panel. Text clean; 251 pages; index, brief bibliography, list of officers at the time, b/w plates.. First Edition. Cloth. Very Good/Good. 5½" by 8¼".
