About This Item

Secker & Warburg, London, 1963. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/Good. index. Light purple coloured cloth covered boards with silver coloured titles to the back strip. Illustrated dustwrapper with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Black and white photograph of author to the rear fold over panel. In 1953 Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, the so-called Atomic Bomb Spies, were executed in Sing Sing prison. The author brings together a reappraisal of the most sensational espionage stories, sifting through multitudes of records and other papers to ".... In perspective how a combination of dissolution with the American Dream, the grinding poverty of the immigrant families of the Lower East Side of New York, led to ordinary, two unsuccessful people to turn to the delusion of the Communist Dream, which in turn delivered them to the electric chair." -- from the front fold over panel blurb. A little softening of the back strip edges along with some fading. Rubbing to the lower book edges and to the top book corners. Light browning and quite heavy foxing to the text block edges with age toning of the pages and scattered foxing, predominantly at the extreme edges. Offset tanning and some foxing to the endpapers with previous owner's name to the top edge of the free front endpaper. Rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and panels with noticeable sunning also present. Some Browning and faint foxing to the verso. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [12], 13 - 304 pages,.
