Lyon and Paris: A. Rey and Librairie J.B.-Bailliere et Fils, 1915. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. Report on the first modern excavations at the large rock shelter of La Colombiere, near Poncin, Ain, some 30 miles southwest of Geneva. Octavo: 205 p. with 102 figures and 25 double-page plates. In a period one-quarter brown morocco over marbled paper binding, with gilt stamping, five raised bands, marbled endpapers, and a ribbon marker. New York: Wilson-Erickson, Inc, 1936. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good. A Reprint of the Original Edition with Reproductions of Numerous Photographs Taken by Louis Palenske and Foreword and Epilogue by Rufus Rockwell Wilson. New York: Wilson-Erickson, Inc., 1936. First edition thus. Alonzo Delano, a native of Auburn, New York, resided in Ottawa, Illinois, at the time of the gold discovery. He left on April 5, 1849, with a company of fifty men, crossed the Missouri River at St. Joseph, and entered California via the Lassen Trail. He then made it to the Feather River on September 9 with $4 in his pocket. While providing what has become one of the great classics of the Overland Trail, Delano also wrote in detail about his adventures in the mines and the general conditions of newly arrived emigrants, miners, and Indians. During these first years in California, he spent much time in Sacramento, the mines of the Yuba River (making $600 in only two weeks), Marysville, the Gold Lake country, Nelson's…

Description:
London: Bloomsbury, 2013. Hardcover. Fine. This book is a study of 'Romantic Pantheism' and its part in the development of the Romantic theory of the Imagination. The crucial point in the history of English Romanticism came when the philosophical concept of the 'active universe' met the developing theory of the Imagination. In its leading sense, Imagination meant full response to, and implication with, the living qualities of natural objects. That is why it was able to assimilate and transform contemporary theories of merely passing interest into an important poetic approach to the universe." Octavo. Original glossy boards; issued without a dust jacket. A fine copy.

Description:
United Kingdom: Peaceville, 1992. From the personal collection of Fenriz, one half of the revered Norwegian black metal duo Darkthrone, accompanied by his extensive album-specific DJ notes, handwritten on the verso of a slip printed by the Norwegian post office. In a September 29, 2011 interview with Last Rites, Fenriz reflected on the tendency towards a more commercial sound in the late 1980s: "the near death of DEATH metal, luckily saved by Autopsy and other organic heads." Acts of the Unspeakable is the third album by California death metal band Autopsy, who are credited with pioneering death-doom. Previously, drummer and vocalist Chris Reifert was a member of Death, performing on their debut album, Scream Bloody Gore (1987). He formed Autopsy after Chuck Schuldiner decided to move back to Florida. Compact disc (CD), accompanied by the printed album inserts and housed in the clear plastic jewel case. Provenance: From the personal collection of Fenriz, acquired in September 2018 from Helvete /…

Description:
New York: Funk & Wagnalls, 1885. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. Few telegrams shocked the fashionable world in the United States more than that received in mid-August 1880 announcing the sudden death in a French hotel of the English actress Adelaide Neilson (1848-80). From her first visit to America in 1872 at Booth's Theatre in New York, playing Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Julia in The Hunchback, Rosalind in Twelfth Night, and Pauline in The Lady from Lyons until her fourth and final tour in the winter of 1879-80, she enjoyed a critical and popular adoration unequaled by any actress of the age, with the possible exception of Lotta Crabtree. Illustrated with nine mounted albumen photographs, including the portrait inset on the front cover, and an engraving. Octavo. In a three-quarter red morocco over marbled paper binding by Stikeman & Co., with decorative gilt stamping, five raised bands, and matching marbled endpapers. The original wrappers are bound in. Philadelphia and London: J.B. Lippincott Company, 1912. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. Review copy, with the publisher's slip tipped in on the front flyleaf. From the library of journalist Elizabeth Brough (1867-1943), with her signature to the front flyleaf. Brough employed the pen name Helen Dare, and was a feature writer for several San Francisco newspapers, including the Call, Examiner, and Chronicle. "...a subtle contribution to the suffragette propaganda - a sustained, consecutive, exhaustive argument for woman's rights - but not along familiar oratorical and emotional lines. On the contrary, it is calmly scientific and historical, leaving the reader to be startled by facts, not language, and, in tracing the history of woman 'from the earliest times to the present,' it makes a study of her in nature and society straight through from the protoplasm to the woman of today in all her variety" - from a November 24, 1912 review in the San Francisco Chronicle, which may have been written by…
