Description:
London: The Architectural Press, 1957. Very well illustrated, small quarto, pp 186, very clean internally, cream boards, a bit marked and age-toned. SCARCE. One of the classic texts. [Yoshida Tetsuro, (1894 - 1956), was a Japanese architect who spread knowledge of Japan’s architecture to the West and at the same time introduced Western motifs in his own works. While on a visit to Europe during 1931-32, Yoshida met the German architects Hugo Haring and Ludwig Hilberseimer. At their urging, he wrote a book, The Japanese House (1935), explaining Japanese architecture to the West. Two other books, one on Japanese architecture and this one were published in 1952 and 1957y. Yoshida’s interest in Western architecture is reflected in his own works, such as the post office at Kyoto (1922), the town hall at Beppu (1928), the general post offices at Tokyo (1931) and Osaka (1939), and a bank at Niigata (1951).. First British edition. Boards. Good.
