Price of $2.50 on the reverse of the jacket. Publisher's cancel after the dedication page. Illustrated by a woodcut frontispiece and a full-page portrait of one of the subjects of the essays. Jacket woodcut by Richard Bennett. Women in Wisconsin, "Zona Gale". A collection of essays from an early feminist figure, who made her home in south-central Wisconsin. Zona Gayle was a playwright and author who served as a mentor and friend to fellow Wisconsin author and feminist Margery Latimer. After graduating from UW-Madison in 1895, she worked as one of Milwaukee's first female newspaper reporters. A nice copy of Gale's first book of essays. A Near Fine book with minor foxing to the preliminaries and boards' edges; dust jacket is Very Good+ with minor edge wear and a bit of toning to the spine panel and the front fold.

Zona Gale, Portage, Wisconsin, November, 1929." Eliza Beers was Zona Gale's mother. and Fola La Follette was the daughter of progressive politician Robert "Fighting Bob" La Follette and lawyer and women's suffrage leader Belle Case. Zona Gale was raised in Portage, Wisconsin and lived most of her life there. She was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1921. No marks in book, binding tight. Spine lettering sunned. A nice association copy. Book condition VG.
