Brian Coffey, Three Poems, Very rare signed copy of limited edition of 100 copies by Irish Catholic Modernist poet (a friend of Thomas McGreevy and Samuel Beckett). This is first single volume of poetry by poet. Privately printed for the Author, Paris, 1933. On sale at Librairie Jeannette Monnier, with author's inscription "Dublin 31-VII-33. To Mr. and Mrs. Henry Church with the good wishes and compliments of Brian Coffey." Spine worn through at mid-length of binding, wrap (which was once blue) faded to blue grey, some soiling on wraps, faint fold on back wrapper with two and one-half inches of illegible scribbling.

Small Octavo (7 5/8 x 5 3/4 inches; 195 x 145 mm), 15 [1] pages in the publisher's original sewn wrappers.INSCRIBED on the front free end paper: "Paris 10.4.33 / For Miss Sonya Schulberg / Sympathiquement / Brian Coffey." One of only 250 copies of the Irish poet's debut solo book of poems, printed for him and placed on sale at the Librairie Jeannette Monnier in Paris.
The recipient, the late Sonya Schulberg O'Sullivan, was an author ("They Cried a Little") and the younger sister of the late novelist and screenwriter Budd Schulberg.
Brian Coffey (1905-1995) lived in Paris in the 1930s and was part of a circle of Irish Modernist authors that included Samuel Beckett and Denis Devlin. Coffey's "Three Poems" followed a book of poems that he published in Dublin in 1930 with Denis Devlin.
Aside from a few limited editions, signed copies of Coffey's works are scarce.
