Spine is missing half of top part and part of the bottom, and there is a library marking at bottom. Covers are bowed, wrinkled and have scuffing and some stains. Corners are bumped and rounded, with fabric split and worn. Covers have edge wear. Inner hinges have only a few strips attaching the covers. Pages have spotting and foxing, and some edges are stained and tanned. Some pages are completely tanned. Half title page has an inscription and signature from the author, but the ink has faded. Book is in poor condition. Folio size, 102 pages plus plates, 9.3 lb.; Folio 13" - 23" tall; 102 pages .

Illustrated throughout with plans, designs, architectural renderings, and engravings. Several large folding plates. The book is in two parts. The first deals with the history of the city and monumental architecture, and seeks inspiration in classical and contemporary notions of city planning - Paris and Washington DC feature prominently. The second part details Andersen's imaginary urban landscape, complete with works of art, for the 'World City'. Olympic stadia, galleries for the arts and sciences, as well as government buildings are all outlined, and placed upon a defined grid plan with an emphasis on a grand central avenue acting as the axis of the city.
