About This Item

London: Macmillan & Co. LTD, 1952. First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Very Good. 8.5" by 5.5". None. A first edition copy of this This volume is the sequel and companion novel to England Reclaimed, completing Sitwell's set of portrait poems. Wrack at Tidesend contains eight new poems and a few older, all "Balnearics, or poems about the life of a town, a watering-place."Osbert Sitwell manages to capture the urban spirit against the rustic, and this volume is near in inspiration to the author's early short stories and novels. The poems are characterised indeed by the same wit and insight as his prose work, but also add sharpness and atmosphere that are only achievable in this form.In the publisher's original sunset orange cloth, with unclipped dustwrapper.  In the publisher's original sunset orange cloth binding, with titles stamped in gilt to spine. Externally, very smart with minor bumping to tail of rear board and some spotting to the top extremities. Spine has slightly faded. Dustwrapper is also smart, with minor shelfwear only. Small closed tear internal to the wraps and some faint spotting. Rear wrap shows slight handling marks and spine is slightly sunned. Internally, firmly bound. Some offsetting to half title page and rear blank page, otherwise pages are bright and clean. With unclipped dustwrapper. Very Good Indeed
