He found solitude and peace in a log cabin he built himself on 2 acres of wild Pacific coast, supported himself as a logger and fishing for salmon, encountered bears, cougars and caribou and bald eagles and found himself. This was later rereleased in paperback as 'Alone in the Wilderness'. .
