London: G. Bell & Sons 1949. (Hardcover) Very good, no dust jacket. 226pp. Frontispiece, illustrations, diagrams, index. There is a previous owner's book plate on the front fixed endpaper, spotting throughout the text and the rear hinge is cracked. "When on March 24th, 1946, Alekhine died suddenly from an attack of angina pectoris, a chain of World Champions stretching back to Steinitz in the latter half of the nineteenth century was abruptly brought to an end.
