This book was owned by Harold Jefferson Coolidge, his book plate is within the front board, prominent lawyer and the great great grandson of Thomas Jefferson and distant relative of President Calvin Coolidge! This book came from the estate of John Robert Gregg, the inventor of the Gregg Shorthand writing system from his property in York, Maine.

The first collected Chaucer in easier-to-read Roman typeface, Out of which, Three Tales are added which were never before Printed; By John Urry, Student of Christ-Church, Oxon. Deceased; Together with a Glossary, By a Student of the same College. To the Whole is prefixed The Author's Life, newly written, and a Preface, giving an Account of this edition, Printed for Bernard Lintot, between the Temple Gates, London, 1721, 626 pp, 81 pp, plus errata, frontispiece of Urry, full-page copper engraving of Chaucer, numerous in text copper engravings of the various Canterbury pilgrims. vignettes of each Tale, head and tailpieces, woodcut initials, full leather, 16 x 10.25", Folio.
CONDITION: Original Leather Binding, ribbed spine (rebacked). Inner paste down and end pages replaced. Boards have scratching, rubbing and scuffing. Corners exposed. Heavy edge and corner wear. Some of the pages have light foxing/toning, some penciling within the margins. Very last end pages has light penciling through the sentences. Held very well together. filled with engraved plates, tail pieces and beautiful decor. See pictures for condition references, ask questions before purchasing!
